Claudia Escobar Mejía is a lawyer and scholar who is internationally recognized for her advocacy for judicial independence and for shedding light on the relationship between justice, corruption, and organized crime. Her work combines decades of experience in public service, research, and teaching, as well as leadership in international initiatives that promote strong democratic institutions.
In 2024, Claudia Escobar was appointed Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the Organization of American States, a position she currently holds. She is a founder and member of the Board of Directors of Be Just and participates in organizations dedicated to public integrity and the fight against corruption, such as Transparency Integrity Initiatives International (Transparencia Integrity Initiatives International), Integrity Sanctuary, and the International Committee of Transparency International (Comité Internacional de Transparencia Internacional).
Es licenciada en Ciencias Políticas por la Louisiana State University y abogada y notaria (Licenciada en Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales) por la Universidad Francisco Marroquín. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University and a degree in Law and Social Sciences (qualifying her as an attorney and notary) from Universidad Francisco Marroquín. She holds a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Law from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, as well as a Master’s degree in Education and Learning from Universidad Rafael Landívar de Guatemala.
