Be Just Internship Program — 2026–2027 Cohort

The Be Just Internship Program is a training and civic advocacy initiative aimed at six young people committed to justice, institutional transparency, and the strengthening of democracy in Guatemala. Over the course of a year, the interns will combine hands-on training, direct support for the organization’s work, and the development of strategic communications, fostering a new generation of leaders.

Duration: 1 year, from October 2026 to October 2027.

The program is organized into three areas of focus spread out over the course of the year: training, project management, and strategic communication.

  • Development of critical thinking skills and situational analysis.
  • Practical experience in project management gained through direct involvement in Be Just's activities.
  • Building capacity in strategic communication.
  • Belonging to a network of people committed to building a fairer society for Guatemala and the region.
  • Age:18 to 30 years old.
  • Education: Studies or interest in law, political science, communication, or related fields.
  • Motivation: Demonstrable commitment to strengthening the rule of law in Guatemala and the region.
  • Commitment: Attend scheduled activities and events, especially those for which you are responsible and those designed to further your training.
  • Location: Must live in the department of Guatemala.
  • Application period: September 1–16, 2026
  • Selected candidates will be notified on October 2, 2026
  • Program start date: October 2026

On Saturday, August 29, Be Just held the fifth "Café con Be Just" gathering, a training and dialogue space designed for young people approaching their first electoral experience, aimed at giving them tools to understand the 2027 electoral process and participate in a conscious and informed way.

On June 15, 2026, Be Just hosted the forum "A New Opening for Democracy in Guatemala" in Washington, D.C., bringing together representatives from civil society, academia, and international organizations to discuss recent appointments within Guatemala’s justice system and the challenges of strengthening the rule of law. The event fostered dialogue on the opportunities and risks facing Guatemalan democracy at a pivotal moment for the country's institutional future.

On July 28, the fourth "Be Just - Coffee Talks" was held, a forum for dialogue with Ana Elisa Samayoa and Marjorie von Ahn to discuss their experience in preparing and communicating the recently published constitutional reform proposal, as well as the importance of women’s participation in these types of processes and the next steps toward achieving greater inclusion in strengthening the justice system.

University students and recent graduates participated in an open discussion with Claudia González, lawyer and human rights defender, on the current challenges facing the rule of law, patterns of criminalization, and the key role of younger generations in defending justice.

In this workshop, we analyzed the selection process of the Attorney General, its challenges, and its impact on the rule of law in Guatemala.
