Be Just Internship Program — 2026–2027 Cohort

What is it?

The Be Just Internship Program is a training and civic advocacy initiative aimed at six young people committed to justice, institutional transparency, and the strengthening of democracy in Guatemala. Over the course of a year, the interns will combine hands-on training, direct support for the organization’s work, and the development of strategic communications, fostering a new generation of leaders.

Duration: 1 year, from October 2026 to October 2027.

The program is organized into three areas of focus spread out over the course of the year: training, project management, and strategic communication.

What do participants get out of it?

Development of critical thinking skills and situational analysis.
Practical experience in project management gained through direct involvement in Be Just's activities.
Building capacity in strategic communication.
Belonging to a network of people committed to building a fairer society for Guatemala and the region.

Ideal candidate profile

Age:18 to 30 years old.
Education: Studies or interest in law, political science, communication, or related fields.
Motivation: Demonstrable commitment to strengthening the rule of law in Guatemala and the region.
Commitment: Attend scheduled activities and events, especially those for which you are responsible and those designed to further your training.
Location: Must live in the department of Guatemala.

Forum: A New Opening for Democracy in Guatemala

On June 15, 2026, Be Just hosted the forum "A New Opening for Democracy in Guatemala" in Washington, D.C., bringing together representatives from civil society, academia, and international organizations to discuss recent appointments within Guatemala’s justice system and the challenges of strengthening the rule of law. The event fostered dialogue on the opportunities and risks facing Guatemalan democracy at a pivotal moment for the country's institutional future.

From Observation to Action: A Collective Gathering

At this gathering, members of indigenous communities, independent journalists, and civil society organizations—united by the experience of having closely observed the selection processes for judges of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the Constitutional Court, and the attorney general—shared what we experienced, what we learned, and what lies ahead.

Be Just Coffee Talks: Democracy belongs to us

On September 25, we held the final “Coffee with Be Just” event as part of the 2025–2026 Cohort internship program. It was a collaborative space for conversation and discussion—grounded in respect and critical thinking—focused on disengagement from democracy and public affairs, as well as identifying concrete ways to take action to build bridges in the face of growing polarization.

Be Just - Coffee Talks: The Role of Women in Transforming Justice

On July 28, the fourth "Be Just - Coffee Talks" was held, a forum for dialogue with Ana Elisa Samayoa and Marjorie von Ahn to discuss their experience in preparing and communicating the recently published constitutional reform proposal, as well as the importance of women’s participation in these types of processes and the next steps toward achieving greater inclusion in strengthening the justice system.

Impact Alliance: Political Violence Against Women

In this roundtable discussion with Ana Garita of UN Women, we talked about the challenges women face in public life and the importance of ensuring their participation on an equal footing and free from violence.
